R.I.P. Dodge Caravan; a thanks to Ray Sanchez

So, our tour van finally crapped out. It was a venerable 2002 Dodge Caravan, whose transmission sadly got alzheimer's and couldn't get outta second gear.

We spent all day yesterday trying to figure out how to get back to Montreal with our gear, stuck in Ontario's rectum, Scarborough, eating kotthu at a pretty rad Sri Lankan place. We eventually managed to sort out a rental car situation and Louis flew us back at about 140kms, just in time to make it home before closingtime at Casa.

Aside from the kotthu (and Sabrina for helping us get that rental car), the saving grace of the day was a man named Ray Sanchez, aka one of the Mister Transmissions (of said chain franchise). (see left). He gave the diagnosis of our car to us straight. It was clear we had to put her down. He took it off to our hands and drove us to the subway station. Thanks, sir.

Thankfully the timing was not disastrous: we had just finished playing 4 shows in Toronto as part of Canadian Music Fest. I understand that we played more shows than any other band, which may be a good or a bad thing depending on how you look at it. We can ensure you, either way, that the festival was in full douche form, replete with turtle necks and black rimmed glasses. (Like, can't they at least try to look differently? These people haven't changed in decades). It was hard to find rock 'n roll at times in a sea of industry, but we were fortunate to be playing with some pretty awesome bands. My personal kick was band who are also from Montreal called the Peelies
(www.myspace.com/peelies) I guess it helps that they're pretty adorable.

Now we're off to the Lone Star State to play SXSW. I need a haircut (and probably a tan)! XO to y'all. Cheers.

Africa, Africa!

L'International, Paris, last night. Merde awesome.

Sam got a big tattoo on his forearm before the show, which as packed tight with the most rock 'n roll crowd we've played to yet in France. Wild.

Lots of savory crepes during the day.

Went to a Senegalese bar afterward and partied with this amazing African troubadour and some really forward prostitutes. Big big beers - Biere La Gazelle, L'Ouest Africain, Dakar .

Had to lug our gear over today to the hotel from the venue, nearly tore my limbs out.

Now, gonna go bike down the Champs Elysees, through the Arc de Triomphe and watch the hockey game tonight at a bar in the Latin Quarter

VĂ©liberate

zut alurs, Paris.

Chipping away at a Koenigsbier in hottttelll room la la la. Belleville!

Played Nouveau Casino on Thursday night with DD/MM/YY again - awesome as ever. Here's some pics: http://www.photosconcerts.com/parlovr-paris-nouveau-casino-2010-02-25-4034

It happened that fellow-Montreal triprockas Beast played a show a couple hours earlier at the same venue, which I found kinda amusingly coincidental because the venue was in Belleville and lead singer, Betty Bonifassi, sang on the soundtrack for Les Triplettes de Belleville.

Then, the most amazing thing was that my dearly beloved brother, Tim, came down from London to surprise me at the show. I was ultra elated and it made my evening pretty damn special.

Bikin around Montmartre today on the Velib (like the Bixis in Montreal).

Zoot zoop tooop.

zzzz in a cave

half of us slept in a cave last night in Toulouse. Another 5am bender. Sam needs the hard stuff because the beer here just makes him piss a lot.

Pavillons Sauvages is a great venue. Guillaume is a very nice promoter and runs a label called Lacrymal Records and puts out crazy vinyl.

I had an 18 year old cat named Minou that ran away into the desert of Saudi Arabia when I was 14.

Here's a cat in Cholet.

Dancing in a Lesbian Bar

In Toulouse today. There's a dance class with a bunch of cute old couples next door playing castanets.

Bordeaux was ridiculous last night. Played at this ex-lesbian bar called St Ex (which looked a whole lot like Zoobizarre in Montreal), with super Baltimore-y band called Clara Clara who were actually from Lyon. Partied at a the promoter's house, which was this massive 2 floor apartment complex with huge rooms and high ceilings and crazy art everywhere. The owner was this crazy old guy named Jean-Marie who got really wasted and just played this Jonathan Richman song, Dancing In A Lesbian Bar about 12 times.

Here to Charley, eating good stuff in France

Last night's show in La Roche Sur Yon at Fuzz'Yon was ramalamadingdong yam yam awesome fun.

We played with a French band called Ichabod Crane, who were pretty awesome and ate at a place called Le Valentin; the meal included rock 'n roll and delicious fish. Mm.

We took a road stop on the way to Lorient at a gypsy lot where we found some porn and old underwear. Listened to P.O.S. 's Never Better, choice pick from Sam, the Man.

There's a little funny article here about our show in Rennes the other day: http://issuu.com/charleslo/docs/paplar-rdr-vendredi-charles?mode=embed&layout=http%3A%2F%2Fskin.issuu.com%2Fv%2Fcolor%2Flayout.xml&backgroundColor=FFFFFF&showFlipBtn=true

Jaunting around Lorient today. Here's a tick tick clip. Hope you smell good, too.

Lots of love. XOXO. Cheers.

Big Love from France - Rennes, L'Antipode - Feb. 18th

So, as per intended, here's a blog about our tour here in France. We played Rennes tonight at MJC Antipodes. Word. They served us an outstanding meal: curry couscous and porc chops (lentils for the veggies) with some rich ass dessert that I couldn't eat.

Played with Jookabox, who are a rad band from Indianopolis, IN. And DD/MM/YY, who are a rad band from Toronto. So there. Yummy music.

Our equally rad tour manager, Sam, filmed this new song from the crowd. Hope you enjoy, lovers.

xoxo. Cheers.
