R.I.P. Dodge Caravan; a thanks to Ray Sanchez

So, our tour van finally crapped out. It was a venerable 2002 Dodge Caravan, whose transmission sadly got alzheimer's and couldn't get outta second gear.

We spent all day yesterday trying to figure out how to get back to Montreal with our gear, stuck in Ontario's rectum, Scarborough, eating kotthu at a pretty rad Sri Lankan place. We eventually managed to sort out a rental car situation and Louis flew us back at about 140kms, just in time to make it home before closingtime at Casa.

Aside from the kotthu (and Sabrina for helping us get that rental car), the saving grace of the day was a man named Ray Sanchez, aka one of the Mister Transmissions (of said chain franchise). (see left). He gave the diagnosis of our car to us straight. It was clear we had to put her down. He took it off to our hands and drove us to the subway station. Thanks, sir.

Thankfully the timing was not disastrous: we had just finished playing 4 shows in Toronto as part of Canadian Music Fest. I understand that we played more shows than any other band, which may be a good or a bad thing depending on how you look at it. We can ensure you, either way, that the festival was in full douche form, replete with turtle necks and black rimmed glasses. (Like, can't they at least try to look differently? These people haven't changed in decades). It was hard to find rock 'n roll at times in a sea of industry, but we were fortunate to be playing with some pretty awesome bands. My personal kick was band who are also from Montreal called the Peelies
(www.myspace.com/peelies) I guess it helps that they're pretty adorable.

Now we're off to the Lone Star State to play SXSW. I need a haircut (and probably a tan)! XO to y'all. Cheers.

Africa, Africa!

L'International, Paris, last night. Merde awesome.

Sam got a big tattoo on his forearm before the show, which as packed tight with the most rock 'n roll crowd we've played to yet in France. Wild.

Lots of savory crepes during the day.

Went to a Senegalese bar afterward and partied with this amazing African troubadour and some really forward prostitutes. Big big beers - Biere La Gazelle, L'Ouest Africain, Dakar .

Had to lug our gear over today to the hotel from the venue, nearly tore my limbs out.

Now, gonna go bike down the Champs Elysees, through the Arc de Triomphe and watch the hockey game tonight at a bar in the Latin Quarter

VĂ©liberate

zut alurs, Paris.

Chipping away at a Koenigsbier in hottttelll room la la la. Belleville!

Played Nouveau Casino on Thursday night with DD/MM/YY again - awesome as ever. Here's some pics: http://www.photosconcerts.com/parlovr-paris-nouveau-casino-2010-02-25-4034

It happened that fellow-Montreal triprockas Beast played a show a couple hours earlier at the same venue, which I found kinda amusingly coincidental because the venue was in Belleville and lead singer, Betty Bonifassi, sang on the soundtrack for Les Triplettes de Belleville.

Then, the most amazing thing was that my dearly beloved brother, Tim, came down from London to surprise me at the show. I was ultra elated and it made my evening pretty damn special.

Bikin around Montmartre today on the Velib (like the Bixis in Montreal).

Zoot zoop tooop.
